"Jody did a great tour. We had so many questions and he never got tired of answering all of them. We saw both - great and sad things on the tour and we got a very good impression of how life in Rio is really like besides the wealthier society and besides the busy streets of Copacabana and Ipanema. We experienced much heartiness and generosity from people who don`t have much for themselves. We recommended that tour already to friends of us and we would definitely do it again" (No R - via Tripadvisor)

"Definitely a 'must do/must see/must experience' when spending some time in Rio, with carnival and a few others! The best and most genuine way to learn more about all aspects of life in a favela and the fascinating Rocinha community, that Jody King is committed to supporting. Probably, and unexpectedly the highlight of my stay!"  (Magali C - via Tripadvisor. Visited February 2016)

"Tour was totally worth it! So I lost my phone the day before and was traveling solo on this tour but I had such a wonderful time with the group and the tour guide (who even let me take pictures with his phone) that I didn't get cellphone withdrawal. The tour guide, Jody, was very knowledgeable and it was obvious he cared about the people in Rocinha. I was conflicted at first about the idea behind this trip, I thought it was akin to poverty tourism. However learning about the charitable works being done in the community, an English school and DJ school, I realized my support was helping not hurting the people in the community. It was obvious to me during the tour that the people respect Jody and the work he does for the community. In my opinion tourists help to support local Rocinha businesses and creates an incentive for the government/police to ensure the favela community is safe and receive essential services. I would definitely recommend all visitors add this to their itinerary when visiting." (Carmelita R - via Tripadvisor)

"After much research we decided on this tour of a Favela. Our guide was Jody who is fantastic. He was knowledgeable, funny and patient. I recommend this tour to anyone. Must do is the ride to the top of the favela on the motor bike taxi."

"Jody has amazing knowledge of the history and people (and dogs!) of Rocinha. I learnt such a lot about the growth and government's treatment of the community. Jody's such a big character in Rocinha, you'll be sure to bump into many interesting characters to say hello to! He knows some great viewing points of the favela - perfect photo opportunities. Oh, and Jody takes incredible photos too!
There are many points of interest along the route, from restaurants/snack bars, to a capoeira show, to the studio of graffiti artist Wark. I'd definitely recommend bringing money to buy artwork/crafts/havaianas/food etc. Some people on my tour wanted to buy stuff but hadn't brought money. Jody will tailor your tour to suit any requests (i.e. surf school/havaianas store/breakfast), so its a really personal experience.
I had such a fun and interesting day in an amazing community. Guaranteed to change your perception of Favela life! Favelas havent been given the best reputation in the media etc. but Jody's tour shows that this is completely wrong! Rocinha is an amazing place, home to amazing people. Favela Phoenix tours is a perfect way to fully immerse yourself in Rocinha for a day, directly meeting and supporting the community. Through the tour, you'll also be supporting Jody's English school, which is working to improve the residents' opportunities by providing free English lessons to adults and children.
Thank you Jody and Rocinha!"

"I had the very best day of my travels going around Rocinha with Jody. Not only is he an amazing human, so really fun to be around and share this experience with, he's got completely the right attitude at doing what he does - I was worried about going into peoples' neighbourhood and looking around in case they felt offended, but that would never happen on this tour. He is mates with everyone, and it is impossible not to see the beauty of the Favela! Anything you pay and any vibes you have go straight back into Rocinha - you feel part of it for a day and now I feel like I have a lifetime connection to it. So glad I chose this one, it's respectful, fun and pure happiness."  (Bidgetschurch - Visited June 2015)
